Method Books
Piano Adventures, written by Nancy and Randall Faber, has become the standard in piano pedagogy and for good reason. Regardless of when you started your piano journey, these books are the stepping stone to intermediate piano. We will more about key signatures, form, and play a wide range of short music hands together. While the entire learning pack has great materials, I only require my students to work out of the method & Hanon-Faber books weekly.

The new addition is at this point is a collection of the Hanon studies edited by Faber. In the past Hanon’s exercises got a bad name for many valid reasons. Randall Faber has not only gone through and made a selection of the most important studies. But he has only modernized them to build toward the fluid technique we strive for today.

Repertoire Option
The repertoire option is for students that are dying to start working on more substantial pieces in their weekly practice. We will be using just the Piano Adventure Theory Book 3A & 3B. We will still be using the Hanon-Faber to develop our motion and coordination across the piano. Below are options for repertoire books that will take the place of the lesson book for the pieces we will be learning. These pieces will no longer just be a weekly homework assignment and then left behind. The pieces we be longer, more challenging, and more rewarding to learn and perform. We will have options in classical music, as well as jazz and pop. These will also make much better options for talent shows, recitals, and piano exams.

The Faber Piano Literature series provides pieces in their original form organized by their time period. We will learn about the history of piano music and learn important performance practices for each period. Since these are also published by Faber, they will align most closely to the level of the core books.

The Martha Mier books teach us about the basics to start understanding the different styles that are in jazz music. A much different way to explore the our modern 20th century works.

These collections of piano solos are definitely full of contrast. Going from Ireland, to Spain, to a classical sonatina these books provide a wide display of the sounds and touch we will control at the piano.
